Genetics Australia Beef Manager Nigel Semmens travelled to China in the region of Inner Mongolia to attend the Tongliao Beef Conference. This was the second annual conference held in Tongliao and based on the large attendance it looks set to become an annual event.
The purpose was to support our Chinese distributor at the conference and to give a presentation about the Australian Beef Industry.
The region where the conference was located is regarded as the beef capital of China, especially for grass fed beef. In the region there was approx. 950,000 beef cattle, surprisingly all of these cattle are of Simmental/Fleckvieh influence.
There is growing interest in cross breeding and while many of the cattle are dual purpose the opportunities for improving the beef produced in the region by way of top Australian beef genetics and the inclusion of other beef breeds such as Angus is very large.
Genetics Australia has purchased a number of beef bulls to meet the China demand.
