AI Thawing Flask – Polystyrene

AI Thawing Flask - Polystyrene Thaw flask Simple AI Thawing Flask (thaw flask). Used to thaw AI straws prior to insemination. It is critical that the AI straws get thawed at the correct temperature for successful AI. To use this flask, fill with a mixture of hot and cold water until the correct temperature is reached. Temperature can be measured with a Cito Thaw Monitor that gives a clear visual colour indication of the correct thawing temperature. Alternatively you can fit a dial thermometer to the lid. Maintain the temperature by adding hot or cold water during use. Be careful not to scald any straws that are in the thawing flask. When using ensure that the water is deep enough to cover around 4/5 of the straw. If the water is too deep and the end of the straw is broken, water may enter and kill the sperm. Make sure the water is the correct temperature prior to taking the straw from the AI tank. Place the straw in the thawing water as quickly as possible and leave there for a minimum of 30 seconds. Longer thawing does not harm, but the straw must be used within 10 minutes and straws cannot be refrozen - so only thaw a number you can use within that time.
